It might have been a couple of minutes or a few hours but Arellia and Alasdair waited in silence after Jeremy and Moyra were finished. She felt sick to her stomach. Her eyes made a slow ascent up Alasdair’s body. They rested on his face.
He was looking down, his face pale, his eyes looked spaced out. He looked as horrified as Arellia. She tried to find a way to break the awkwardness but no suitable words came to mind.
Instead he was the one to break it first.
“What are you thinking?”, He said. His voice was rough, restrained.
“I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be thinking”, she replied.
“I asked what are you thinking”, he sighed and sat on the edge of the bed. Arellia watched him, then joined him.
“I’m not sure, I’ve been betrayed again… The girl who hated me when she met me is so obsessed with the man I love that she had sex with another man calling your name, she envisioned you, and I feel revolted”, she felt the truth of her feelings like another punch to her churning stomach.
“Would it make you feel better to know I am angry”, he said. Maybe she would feel better. But given that this wound was still fresh she decided she didn’t feel better.
“No, I don’t think I’ll feel better until I know that she can never get her fingers on you, and he is not crowned King”, she said. Alasdair chuckled through his nose.
“OK, I can promise that”, he kissed the top of her head. Arellia leaned into him. And she let his heat ease her nauseated body.
